I don’t like that the seller only posted one photo to go along with all their attitude.

Interesting. Based on the modifications, I would assume that it has been driven pretty hard in it’s life. I’m on the fence about the price, probably on the high end of what it might be worth to me, so a good starting point for negotiation.
What is a “cosmetic head gasket” though?

Also, love your tag

It’s a Cometic gasket. Cometic is an aftermarket brand.
I’d agree with your observations and conclusion. I bet the original head gasketor head let go with that 14psi of boost and someone felt they needed a “better” gasket. Seems like it’s been driven pretty hard.

You’re right.

I liked your teaser better than the actual ad, unfortunately.

One picture and high end asking price. Does not compute

But I don’t because you only gave me one picture

you clearly don’t deserve what i got. move along now.

To warrant a fucking full millimeter Cometic MLS? This thing's more thrashed than a stolen Ferrari. Especially when I see zero supporting fuel mods. The head got rebuilt because the dumbass burnt the shit out of the valves.

methinks you might be onto something.

Ah. Reading comprehension is fundamental.
Had to go back to see the word again, I was so convinced it was written as cosmetic. ( https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/d/denver-1988-celica-all-trac-turbo/6780118129.html )

Looks great from the single picture, but holy hell, $7500!?!?!?
![]() 12/26/2018 at 12:54 |

Would be a nice price if it was stock. But shit like the EGR delete and other mods puts this into crack Pipe territory for me.

Betcha $20 that if I pop the head, every piston’s crispy and you’ve got some nice notches in the cylinder wall to go with the fried bearings down below.
I don’t even want to guess what condition the clutch is in.

Somewhat related, I saw a Corolla all-trac sedan from that era with Alaskan plates driving in Albuquerque yesterday. It was even in presentable condition.

Run away.
“i know what this car is. . . . if you don’ t like the price find a different one”
At $7,500 I would expect original
condition and not the battery moved to the trunk, tvis and egr removed and the head played with.

but “improvements!”

You know why its running at 14 psi?
Because 14 psi is the max you can run on a 3sgte before you hit the fuel cut.
I mean, you can run more with supporting mods, if supporting mods is a thing you’re into. Which it doesn’t seem like this owner is.

I love them, but this one appears to be CP.
I had an ST165
as my first car back in the day. It taught me how to oversteer into a ditch AND how to understeer into a ditch!
AWD though, so i was never stuck in said ditch.

Yeah, hard CP based on sketch mods and likely sketch repairs because of said mods. A shame to see such a cool and rare car abused so much.

Same as the donor car for Project Binkey, isn’t it?
